Fort Myers, FL (February 7, 2019) – Gateway Golf & Country Club gets a new owner, a new name and over $5,000,000 in improvements!
The Equity Members of Gateway Golf & Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida sold the Club to a local businessman Don Garrett. Don was presented with the idea and opportunity by his Operating Partner, Jimmy Lynn, who has been in the private Club business for many years. “The more I looked at the business model, the more I liked it because it compliments my current D. Garrett Construction Company where I specialize in all aspects of building and facilities improvements in the private club sector,” stated Don Garrett. Lynn and Garrett formed a company, Lifestyle Management Group of Florida to manage and own future golf and country clubs. There were many parties interested in purchasing the Club, including Club Corp and Concert Golf, but the Members decided to sell it to Garrett and Lynn. Members voted for the sale to Garrett and Lynn with a 98.6% vote to seal the deal.
The Club has been rebranded and is now named The Club at Gateway. This summer, a world class bocce complex and pickleball courts were built. Over 200 people are in the bocce leagues and pickleball has become very popular. Several complimentary pickleball clinics were offered to Members with an overwhelming attendance and excitement for the game. The membership has grown with the addition of 70 new Members in various categories. Membership offerings have been completely restructured to align with current trends and market demand. The Membership Director has been very successful in showcasing the club’s Membership Offerings and future plans under new ownership which meet the needs of individuals and families of all ages. “Our membership is very excited about the infusion of over $5 million into the Club with NO future assessments. We are seeing a spike of Jr. Executives (under 36) members and other categories with the restructure of the offerings,” states MJ Chappy, Director of Membership & Marketing.
Construction will begin after Easter 2019 on a new 300 seat banquet facility that will have the ability to be split in three different areas to accommodate large or small events. A new second level fitness center will be built, complete with separate spin and aerobics rooms, as well as, new cardio, weight and TRX training. The new resort style pool will feature a zero entry area, water features, lap lanes and a 20 seat outdoor bar. The new display exhibition kitchen equipped with wood burning pizza ovens and grills will be the star of the food and beverage operation. Another first class feature will be a 1,500 bottle glass wine cellar in the lobby area and a private wine room for dining and entertaining! A playground has also been added to the plans for children to enjoy.
Garrett and Lynn presented the overall plan to the membership at a recent Town Hall meeting and the Members could not be more excited. “We believe that The Club at Gateway, which is situated in a booming area, with new housing and corporations growing daily, younger families and new Members will continue to join for the new lifestyle offerings,” says Jimmy.
“The Club at Gateway will always be our flagship Club and we look forward to growing the business in Southwest Florida where we can be very hands on and provide a very personalized service to the Clubs we own or manage,” added Don.
